“…I want to stress what some other reviewers said about this monster. This is by far the best shredder (and most expensive) I’ve owned. I owned about three el cheapos before. They all burned out. I use this at home and I’m a nut about shredding anything with any personal information on it. So I might use it more than the average household and I can’t imagine ever stressing this beast. It can shred up to 8 sheets of paper in one pass and the 1/2 horsepower motor is powerful enough to shred credit cards and staples. The HT88 has a very nice looking design, and comes with a 4 gallon wire mesh wastebasket, so you can easily see how full the wastebasket is. Unlike in many other shredders, this model has an overheating protection. It will automatically detect when the motor gets too hot and stops down until it is cooled enough, so there’s no fear of accidentally breaking it. Overall, it is easy to operate and boasts a very nice design, making it suitable for any personal/small office use.

The only issue I came across is the overheating issue but that was because I was feeding in 6-7 pages at once non stop for more than 2 minutes. Wastebasket holds around 220 sheets. Powerful 1/2 horsepower motor has more than enough power to instantly shred your junk mail and bank statements. It is compact in size and has wheels on it making it easier to move around. Emptying the bin is made easy, no need to remove the cutter head, since the bin slides forward. “I have had this for a month, and purchsed it in spite of quite a few negative reviews because I refuse to spend a fortune on a shredder when all I need it for is credit card junk mail and relatively few banking / confidential documents. It does the job perfectly well. Yes, you should only put in one folded piece of paper at a time (and yes, it has to be folded because the opening is small), but it happily chewed up 30 of these in a row when I was clearing out my desk.”

It is very powerful for a low-priced shredder, in addition to documents it handles CD’s, staples, credit cards, cardstock, to name a few. Cleaning the bin is very easy, just turn it upside down since the shredder head comes off from top easily. It is a bit noisy, but this is just a personal opinion which may vary from person to person. Of course, shredders are noisy devices, but I believe this is the most silent shredder you can get for this price.

There’s a handy safety lock switch: if the lid of the machine is lifted, it stops automatically. This is great if you have small children in your house and they happen to stumble the shredder.

“This is the best shredder that I have owned. Two other shredders by different manufacturers were not very good and did not last. This one seems to be a quality piece. It is noisy, but so far that is the only negative I have for it. Of course, shredders by their very nature are noisy devices, so… This machine is very good about pulling paper straight into the shredding blades without tending to wad up on one side and jamming. This was an issue that I had with both of my previous shredders. I have not used it much, so I have only had to empty the waste basket twice.”
